Get Your Sleep On

New post over at Psychology Today about the possible benefits of sleep flushing the brain like a cranberry bog harvest. And some gluten and psychosis and toxoplasma mash-up here in the next couple of days, once I clean the house and get all the candy and mouldering pumpkins put away.

Even Michael Stipe thinks sleep is important in this odd homage to the 7th interval…

Happy Halloween! Don't let the goblins bite.

  1. Saw that article and blogged about it myself. Tried my hand at a cartoon of the experiment but the graphics on blogger leave a lot to be desired:

I thought this was really an awe inspiring experiment with many potential applications to psychiatry. When I was in training the only time you talked about CSF was on neurosurgery rotations.

    1. Yes, thanks for the link! The accompianing editorials were also interesting along with some of the speculation about differences in brain volume in different animals and necessity for sleep associated with how the volume vs cortex would change with size. It was also interesting to see that anesthesia had a similar effect to sleep.

  2. I totally think sleep is important, but when you're going through a phase when you're not sleeping (me right now), it is just stressful to know how important sleep is!!

    2. THANKS, yes, I do all of that, including walking around in amber goggles like a crazy person for a couple hours every night and leaving social events early so I can sleep properly, but my adrenal glands are a little high strung and sometimes it doesn't work (trying to work on those).

BTW, love you instagram photos and tweets!
